Today is Chris’ Birthday, and at the end of today we will have shared 5 of them together.  I’m amazed looking back on these last years how everything has worked out.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your life. Thank you for…. everything… I love you more than anything and more than you will ever know. I hope this and the days to come bring you lots of joy. Happy Birthday Chris!

I’ll be home as soon as I can.

Today is my Mom’s Birthday, and like most years, it falls during one of the busiest weeks in my life. This week we are in Tech for Beauty and the Beast, and so since I don’t have any time to sleep this week (much less celebrate), I just wanted to post something special for her (quick and short as it my be).

Happy Birthday Mom! Thank you for being supportive of what I do. Thank you for dinners even though I don’t live at home. Thank you for advice when I need it. Thanks, for being my Mom.

Sunday (or some time near in the future if that doesn’t work out), dinner is on me!

I love you very much.

Why didn’t anyone think of this before?

Obama will be giving a weekly address on youtube under the user name ChangeDotGov. This week he released the first of the weekly address’.

Plus he has a new website http://www.change.gov/.

Just one more reason to be hopeful and excited.

Autumn… Captured before it was too late.

I have always felt that that Autumn was short changed. It seems like Summer and Winter last forever, and you can feel and see the changes of Spring for a very long time but Autumn… The leaves start changing, you get maybe a week or two of gorgeous fall colors, then they all start to fall and soon after they lose their colors and become crunchy (although, raking up the leaves and jumping in them remains one of my favorite things to do in the fall).

This year I was lucky enough to capture some of the prettiest of fall colors displayed here for you now… Interestingly enough, I did not go out intending to do this… Instead, I was outside waiting for Chris to come home when I walked to the park that is less than a block from my house… I realized that this would be one of the last good days to take pictures and started shooting… The following pictures were not captured with my SLR or even my tiny cannon, instead, they were captured on my iPhone, and they are some of my favorite pictures of the season.

Little Piece of History

Chris and I sat on our couch last night and watched Barack’s acceptance speech. Pillow in hand I hung on his words, inspired by his message and in complete awe at what I was witnessing. I never thought that I would care about politics. I never thought that I would be as (and please pardon the clique) proud to be an American as I am today.

Who would have thought that so many people would turn out to vote, not only for Obama, but just vote? Try to make a difference?

Who would have thought that with two states still uncounted that one man could get 349 of the electoral votes?

And I, certainly did not think I would see Florida and so many other “RED STATES” go to a Democrat.

I make a vow today to stay informed, to stay involved. Our country can only be for the people, if the people make their voices heard.

Yes We Can!

So I thought I would get to the polls early, maybe be very close to the front of the line today… As I got to my polling place at 5:45… I realized I was 35th in line. By the time the polls opened and our line shifted a little, there were 60 people, and by the time I left, there were at least another 60 waiting to be let it.

It took me 1 hour from the time I got in line to the time I left the polls. But I took the time today, and I went out of my way to Vote.

The only bad thing about my voting experience is that the woman running the paper ballots was not trained well. You the voter are supposed to feed the ballot. Because the ballots can be read the privacy sheild is supposed to stay over your ballot as it is fed into the machine. Neither of these things were happening, and while I’m not ashamed of my votes, it still is pretty unsettling that I saw her eyes take not of my presidential vote. And I know it’s small, but I feel something has been taken away from me. My ballot is, no longer my own secret that no one else knows, that is lost…

Still, it was an amazing morning in spite of this.

One final thought, I doubt all the people in line with me today agree with me on who the next president should be. One thing is certain, I feel very lucky to have been able to vote in this election because regardless of how this swings, it means history.

First African American president, oldest first term president, first woman VP.

I know who I voted for (and so does that election judge). Still… I find myself in awe at the fact that I was lucky enough to be a part of this, lucky to be old enough. And I’m happy to say…

I voted in this inspireing, historical election.

I voted for history.
